Electric violin/hardanger fiddle/electronics
Victoria Johnson studied with Leif Jørgensen at the Oslo Conservatory. She continued her studies at the State Academy in Vienna under Franz Samohyl and later with Detlef Hahn at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she was awarded her Diploma with honours. Victoria gave her debut recital in Oslo in 1995 to great acclaim and has since performed as a soloist with many orchestras and participated in international chamber music festivals. From 1993-95 she held the position of principal leader 2nd. violins in The Norwegian Opera Orchestra and now frequently performs both contemporary and early music as a member of the string duo Kyberia, the Ametri String Quartet and different early music ensembles.
Both her CDs "Ametri" and "Navigations" where nominated to the Norwegian Spellmannspris (Grammy award).
As an improviser, Victoria has performed with Kyberia at New Music Azerbajan and Blaa jazz club, Oslo, and toured with improvised music for young people for the Norwegian Concert Council.
Victoria has commissioned and performed several pieces for solo violin and electronics from composers both within and outside Norway, which she premiered at the Autunnale festival of contemporary music, Bergen in September 2003. Since then she has appeared in many festivals, most recently the UNM festival in Reykjavik, Iceland 2006. Since August 2005 Victoria has been a member of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Norway. In June 2006 she performed Mozart´s Violin Concerto no. 4 with the University Symphony Orchestra in Oslo. She is also a dedicated baroque-violinist performing with Stavanger Baroque Ensemble, Sounds from the Cathedral and Norwegian Baroque Orchestra. Future projects include a concerto for electric violin, live electronics and brass band by Knut Vaage to be performed with ruling norwegian champions Stavanger Brass Band under the European Capital of Culture Stavanger 2008. |
