Percussion/computer

Edvin Østvik was born in Florø on the Northwest coast of Norway in 1971. His musical studies began with the accordion and ended up with percussion after a short intermezzo on the violin.

Edvin studied at the Bergen Music Conservatory and later at the Norwegian State Academy of music in Oslo, graduating in 1996. Since then has been in demand as a performer with chamber music ensembles and orchestras throughout Norway, as well as in theatre and opera. Edvin has also worked as a member of the SISU percussion ensemble, with whom he performed the Sven-David Sandstrøm's opera Emperor Jones at the Gothenburg Opera and Ultima festival in Oslo. From 2000 to 2003 he was principal percussionist in the BIT20 ensemble and BIT20 percussion. In 2003 he was also assistant-principal percussionist in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Edvin appears on recordings with both the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as on recordings by the BIT 20 ensemble.

In addition to his work with percussion/computer in Fat Battery, Edvin has also worked as a computer programmer/sound designer for violinist Victoria Johnson, Swedish actor Martin Hasselgren and Cool Opera in Stavanger.
